WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GENERATOR AND A UPS?
A UPS provides 3-Phase uninterrupted, conditioned Power continually and during: voltage sags (brownouts) and spikes (surges), single phase conditions, total voltage outages (blackouts) A rental generator also provides 3-Phase power, however backup standby generators need time to spin-up which can take anywhere from 5 to 30 Seconds. Those milliseconds of power disruption means expensive customer critical load crash. Also, running on generator consumes very large amounts of fuel and is not cost-effective when compared to a UPS rental system Other ways that UPS and generator applications differ: UPS systems cannot handle, critical heavy motor loads, UPS systems require a temperature controlled environment, a generator feeding a UPS must be at least 2x’s the size of the UPS system and UPS systems are normally rated in kVA but have a power factor (i.e. a .8 pf, 125kVA = 100kW)
